so far everything in france is great! aix is a beautiful city. all of the streets are really tiny and lined with super old buildings, a lot from the 1700s. there are 22 fountains in aix (i guess the city is famous for its fountains), and i've decided to take a picture with each one. (cait and nanette: my new uhaul project)
i really like madame lafay. she speaks a little english, which can be helpful, but mostly speaks in french. she's lived in aix for 10 years and has hosted students for nearly the entire time. she's really into eating healthy and organic food and is a good cook! she also has a cat named bianca. stacy is my housemate. she also goes to u of i and is a vegetarian. we each have our own rooms in the apartment. my room has two large doors that lead out to a balcony and i have a view of the cathedral. the apartment is only a ten minute walk from school and is very close to cafes, restaurants and all kinds of shops.
so far, the food has been delicious. for lunch, we have fresh vegetables (zucchini, peppers, olives, baby tomatoes, lettuce), bread, cheese and some fish. for dinner, madame cooks. the first night we had poisson et des petits pommes de terre (fish and baby potatoes), and the other night she made a vegetable tart. and, of course, we have cheese, bread and wine with every meal.
yesterday and today is orientation at school. we got a tour of the city yesterday and today classes start at noon! i have painting and drawing first.

Your room is beautiful. The style & furniture tell me a lot about the building architecture. Love the view. The photo documentation of fountains will be soooo cool Kimberly. what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are enjoying everything with an adventureous open mind & heart. I cannot wait to visit Aix! love you, /mom
Je m'appel Adrianne
ReplyDeleteI love it. Your room and view look perfect. Madame lafay sounds like a great host for you! I love the fountain project. Here's an idea....Combine the Uhaul project with the Kim goes to Canada project= beautiful fountains and headless kims!!! Or.....better yet the high school senior yearbook project. Belly... DO IT!! Have a blast. More pictures please. Love Ya.
ReplyDeleteTry not to clog her toilet with all that organic food you will be eating. I love how you mom is talking architecture and fountians and I'm telling you be careful when you poop.
ReplyDeleteKiiiimmm! Your room looks sooo cute! I love the entertainment center-like thing. I guess it kind of is a dresser? I can't wait for the fountain pictures. If you don't get all of them I'll be extremely dissapointed in you. These don't move so it should be easier than Uhauls!
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited that your host mommy is a good cook and that the other girl you live with is a vegetarian. Maybe they did that on purpose? That would be smart. I'm sorry your public trasit experience wasn't perfect...I just get this image from that story that is so perfect and makes me giggle.
Love and miss you!
ps...... I love Jeffs comment. I also think you should tally while you're in France. Thinking of you ;) XXOO
