mes parents

my parents visited last week and we had a pretty busy week! due to problems with the airlines (grr), they arrived in aix half a day late. and the weather was freezing for the first half of their trip! but we ended up having a good time anyway. the first two days we walked around aix, i showed them all of my favorite stores and we shopped the market. we also ate a ton of food and PASTRIES (my dad was tired of them by the time they left. i'll never be tired of them).

for the weekend we rented a car (FIAT punto) and drove to Avignon on saturday. it was great-- the "palais de papes" (pope's palace) was enormous, really cold and very interesting. the entire thing was constructed in 20 years which was unbelievable to me. we got lunch in Avignon, shopped a bit and walked around the city. i convinced my parents to climb to the top of this little hill next to the palace to see a panorama of the city, but when we got up there it was so windy we couldn't stay! the city is right next to the Rhone river, so it's infamous for wind and cold.

sunday we meant to drive south to Cassis (a fishing town) but got on the highway going in the wrong direction, so we ended up in Martigues.. the Venice of France! it was a cute little town, but it was cold again and almost everything was closed because it was sunday.

we also visited Cezanne'e studio in Aix, which was cute. and mom and i went a little crazy over the moroccan pottery at the market. =) i'm really glad they had a chance to visit! (hope you guys had fun!)

friday i'm going to marseille with my history class: my teacher is pointing out all the spots relevent to WW2 and the French resistance. it should be interesting.

  1. How lucky for your parents you were able to show them around a bit. Getting lost just adds to the adventure!! I'm with your dad, I'd get sick of the pastries too. I need real food.

I know it takes a lot of time and your internet is scarce but where are the pics dude?? Oh, silly me I just saw the "pictures are coming soon" it kind of blended with your "au revoir"
    Love you Kimber. XXOO
